Your Responsibilities as a Team Player
- Show up on time. Be at the ice at least 5 minutes before game time to allow time to change shoes. A delayed start has a domino effect; avoid being the cause.
- You must have proper footwear. If you don’t have a pair of curling shoes, dedicate a pair of running shoes as your curling shoes. These shoes must have clean soles and must not be worn outside. Wearing outside shoes on the ice leaves grit on the ice, which catches on the rocks and damages the sliders on curling shoes.
- Keep the ice clean. Eliminate or at least minimize walking on the carpet in the lounge and the rink areas in your outdoor shoes. Remove and leave your outdoor footwear in the cloakroom area.
- Use the shoe brush before entering the rink. The carpeted areas are not free of grit /dirt.
- If another team is coming on the ice after you please be considerate. Normally it takes up to 15 minutes to curl an end. If there are less than 15 minutes left of game time and you haven’t started the last end, you should not play a full last end. Consider playing 4 rocks per team if it’s a close game or simply end after 5 full ends.
Spares:
It is your responsibility to find a spare if you will be missing a game. Call the spares in your league or, try ladies from teams not scheduled to play that night. If you can’t find a replacement in the business ladies league, look for a player from the other leagues (daytime ladies, mixed). Your Skip will have a copy of the other leagues spare lists and they are posted on the board as well. Remember to let your skip know! We encourage you to try to get a spare from the curling club before you go outside the club but that is also an option.
1) Whenever possible, replace a player with someone who plays the same position. (i.e.: lead replaces lead, skip replaces skip etc.)
2) If another position needs to be replaced and another skip is brought in as a spare, the spare skip must play lead (except for as noted in 1) and everyone else moves up.
3) Determine the player rotation at the beginning of the game and follow it to the end.
Game Rules:
Two (2) of the team’s original players must be present for a win to count.
A tied game is acceptable in regular play. In a Play-Off situation where you need a definite winner a full extra end will be played.
